Bokang Junkie is a 14-year-old boy whose family is originally from Lesotho. The family of four relocated to Thembelihle in 2020, seeking a better life. In 2021, Bokang came to our center to report a severe ear infection, which marked the beginning of our involvement with his family.
Upon taking him to the clinic, we discovered that Bokang had been defaulting on his medication, which led us to send him to Lenasia Clinic for a thorough health evaluation. During this process, Bokang’s mother, Nthabiseng, was not yet ready to disclose his Health condition to him, but due to his deteriorating health, we took the initiative to assist her in disclosing the information to Bokang.
When we first intervened, Bokang’s condition was critical—he was very sickly and constantly needing medical attention. However, through our consistent support, we have helped him regain his health, ensuring that he adheres to his medication and attends all of his clinic visits.
Before our intervention, Bokang’s health was at significant risk due to child neglect and a lack of proper care, which led to frequent clinic visits. To this day, the Junkie family continues to receive food parcels from our center. We also assist with regular clinic visits, as the family struggles to take full responsibility for Bokang’s health. Mount Olive Outreach has committed to ensuring that Bokang never defaults on his medication.
In addition to his ongoing treatment, we have arranged for Bokang to see an eye specialist at Thembelihle Clinic for vision problems, which are also being treated. We will continue to support him throughout this process, ensuring that he receives the necessary care to lead a normal life.
Both Bokang and his mother are now adhering to their medication and attending all their appointments, thanks to our support.
We are deeply grateful for the generosity of our donors, whose contributions make a significant impact on the lives of families like the Junkie family. Thank you for helping us make a difference!
