The sun rose gently over the heart of Lehae, casting a golden glow on the Khaya Centre—a place that has become so much more than just a building. On this special day, laughter echoed through the air, balloons danced in the breeze, and a vibrant buzz of joy wrapped itself around every corner of the centre. It was Khaya Centre’s birthday—a celebration not just of passing time, but of purpose, resilience, and community.
More than 800 children, all part of Khaya’s family of beneficiaries, arrived with eyes gleaming and hearts full of excitement. Each child carried a story—some heavy, some hopeful—but today, every story was met with love, music, and unity. The staff, ever warm and tireless in their dedication, greeted the children like family returning home.
Decorations lined the walls, colourful banners fluttered with pride, and tables groaned with cake—yes, real cake!—sliced with care and shared with delight. The atmosphere was electric. There was dancing. There was music. There was laughter that seemed to echo into the future, a promise that no matter what came next, this moment of joy and togetherness was real, was earned, and was shared.
For the team at Khaya, it was a humbling moment. To see the impact of their hard work reflected in so many bright eyes and hopeful hearts was the greatest birthday gift of all.
This was not just a celebration of the years passed—but of the lives touched, the meals shared, the tears dried, the dreams ignited. It was a reminder that Khaya Centre is more than an organization. It is a home. A place of belonging. A beacon.
Through all of these 13 years, nothing would have been possible without the support of all our donors, sponsors, partners and friends that have become family to us!
