In an inspiring display of community service, 71 Grade 12 learners from Waterstone College recently dedicated their time and efforts to support Khaya Centre, breaking the cycle of poverty while making a positive impact in the lives of many. Through a series of charitable activities, these young learners showcased how a unified effort can create meaningful change.
One of the most significant contributions came through the establishment of five community gardens in Lehae, where students assisted local residents by setting up and maintaining gardens at their homes. These gardens aim to provide both their families and the community with sustainable access to fresh produce, offering a practical solution to food insecurity and allowing families to take control of their own food sources.
In addition to the gardening initiative, the students also contributed to the maintenance of the Khaya Centre building.
The students went above and beyond by assisting with preparing meals for over 1,000 children part of our beneficiaries, demonstrating their commitment to addressing immediate needs. In addition to cooking, they also played educational and fun games with Early Childhood Development (ECD) learners, fostering both joy and learning.
The generosity of Waterstone College students didn’t stop there. They also donated sanitary packs and food items, which were handed out to families in need. The donations helped ease the burdens faced by many in the community, providing essential items for personal health and nourishment.
The efforts of Waterstone College students serve as a testament to the power of youth engagement and community support. Through their hard work, they have not only made a direct impact on the residents of Lehae but also played an important role in breaking the cycle of poverty. Their dedication to serving others is a model for future generations, proving that even small actions can lead to significant change.
Waterstone College’s commitment to social responsibility is a shining example of how education and community involvement can come together to create a better world for all. We look forward to their next visit with us!
